Who takes TELPAS?All students in Kindergarten - Grade 12 who are identified as limited English proficient and are enrolled in ESL classes.
Students who are identified as LEP but whose parents have declined services. |
What is TELPAS used for?
TELPAS results are used to meet state and federal reporting and accountability requirements.
TELPAS helps parents monitor their children as they progress in English. TELPAS informs instructional planning and program exit decisions for individual students. |
TELPAS OnlineTeachers are trained to use proficiency level descriptors to determine the English language proficiency of students based on classroom observations and written student work
Teachers are required to go online and pass a calibration test that assesses the teacher's knowledge of rating students TELPAS writing, listening, speaking and reading. Teachers must successfully calibrate each year. Teachers may take Basic Online Training or a refresher course in preparation for TELPAS calibration. |
